Expertise

A little bit about Jolie.

What was your path to becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist?

I remember the first time I learned about marriage and family therapy; that was the moment when I finally had a way to describe how my heart and brain worked together to understand and interact with the world. I started my career path as an educator, teaching middle and high school choir for six years. I loved it because I love music; mostly, I loved it because it provided a platform to help foster meaningful relationships and explore the human experience. After six years of teaching, I decided to take a year off while becoming a new parent and reflect on what I wanted life to look like in this new phase. I had always contemplated various forms of counseling and therapy-type careers, but nothing quite fit until I stumbled upon marriage and family therapy. The focus on the relationships between ourselves and others, as well as our thoughts, values, and behaviors, really spoke to me and the rest is history, as they say..

What should someone know about working with you?

In working with me, you can expect me to show up with a genuine curiosity about who you are and what is meaningful to you. Oftentimes, if we are feeling stuck, finding new ways to be curious about ourselves and the world opens up new paths of thought and action. I believe you are the only one who knows what works for you and what you need. I see my role as creating a safe environment for you to slow down from the busy pace of life so you can feel the feelings, voice your thoughts, question the status quo, and dare to dream; I will hold space for whatever you need

How do your own core values shape your approach to care?

I would say three of my own core values that show up in my therapeutic approach the most are safety, balance, and connection. At the heart of things, I think humans are drawn to feel safe, balanced, and connected both to themselves and others. I strive to model this within each session and will often be curious about new ways these concepts can be explored within any context we find ourselves in.
